Hopick 2.3.0 — Comments With the Full Toolbox
by Hopick Team, Founders
Comments used to be the weak link on Hopick. Posting felt powerful; replying felt like an afterthought. This release gives comments what they always should have had — the same formatting power as posts, a reading view that stops cramping you, and a quieter, faster foundation underneath.
Comments you can write properly
Full markdown in every comment. Bold, italic, lists, links — there's a proper formatting toolbar now, so a reply can carry as much care as the post it answers.
Go full-screen. Tap expand and the editor takes over the whole screen, which makes a real difference when you're writing something long.
Context that helps you reply. @mentions, link cards and a view of the parent comment all stay within reach, so a considered answer doesn't mean scrolling back up.
A comment view that breathes
A redesigned thread screen. Reply inline, vote on nested replies, and watch the input bar animate smoothly into place.
Sub-threads you can follow. Replies expand and collapse cleanly, so even a long, winding conversation stays readable instead of sprawling into one wall.
A native foundation
We built our own set of native UI components — SwiftUI on iOS, Compose on the other side — so screens start feeling more at home on each platform. New avatars show proper loading states and refill the moments where old ones just sat blank.
Photos, done right. Tap the space around a post and it opens the post; tap the photo and it opens the gallery. Gestures now do what your hand already expects. Photos also keep their real proportions, so nothing gets squished to fit a frame.
The problems we were fixing
Comments drove a lot of your frustration, and it was fair.
- Comments were the weak link — posts had formatting, replies didn't. That gap is closed.
- Threads were a chore — long conversations collapsed into a mess you had to wade through.
- Mystery gestures — tapping a photo sometimes did something you weren't ready for. Now it does what you'd guess.
What's next
A smarter home feed, richer posting tools, a more personal profile, and the same goal we've had since day one: always faster. If something's off, tell us. If it's great, tell us louder. Come find us on Discord.
