Totally agree — there is nothing open after 2am around here.

Try the one near the market, worth the walk.

Our Roadmap - How Hopick has grown, and where it's headed.

We're open about how this app has developed, the bumps along the way, and what we're working on next. Simpler on the surface, but there's been a lot of thinking behind making it feel fast, reliable, and like home.

  1. v2.3

    Better Conversations

    What shipped

A full makeover for commenting. You can write rich, formatted comments — bold, italic, lists, links — and replies thread together properly. Opening a comment takes you into a clean, focused screen instead of a cramped box.

    Why we changed it

Commenting is the heart of Hopick, but it felt heavy. Editing was basic, and reading a long thread was a chore.

    How we fixed it

We rebuilt the comment experience from the ground up — a proper editor, a comfortable reading view, and a smooth reply flow.

  2. v2.4.1

    From Clubs to Topics

    What shipped

The biggest change to how Hopick is organised. We replaced the old Club system with Topics — a lightweight way to tag any post and follow the subjects you care about. New topics tab, tag badges on posts, and the ability to filter your home feed by interest.

    Why we changed it

Clubs sounded nice but they were heavy. Joining, moderating, and maintaining a club was more than most people needed just to talk about a subject.

    How we fixed it

We kept the spirit — organised conversations — and dropped the overhead. A topic is just a tag now. Anyone can use it, anyone can follow it, and the app got simpler overnight.

  3. v2.4.3

    Notifications You Can Trust

    What shipped

A serious reliability pass on notifications. Comments, replies, and activity that had been getting lost finally arrive properly. The unread badge stopped drifting out of sync.

    Why we changed it

People were missing interactions. A push would arrive, but the in-app list wouldn't show it — or the badge said three when there was really one. Trust in the system quietly eroded.

    How we fixed it

We rebuilt the delivery path so the in-app list always matches what actually happened, and the badge re-syncs with the server. Reliability was the point of this release.

  4. v2.4.4

Notifications Rebuilt, and a New Look

    What shipped

Two big things happened. Likes and upvotes now arrive grouped into summaries instead of one alert after another, milestone alerts tell you when a post starts taking off, and a daily digest rounds up what you might have missed. The app now uses a translucent liquid-glass design, the create button lives in the tab bar, and opening a post from your feed zooms in smoothly.

    Why we changed it

Notification fatigue — too many single alerts, too little signal. Duplicate alerts pinging the same activity twice, slow starts on launch, and code clutter left over from Clubs.

    How we fixed it

We grouped alerts and added digests, stopped duplicates, made the feed appear instantly, and cleaned out the leftover Club code entirely.

Where we're headed

Smarter home feed

Recommendations should feel like they were made for you, and we're investing there.

Richer posting

Creating something great should be effortless.

A more personal profile

Profiles should better reflect the people behind them.

Performance, always

Performance remains a feature — not an afterthought.

This is the first place where I can talk about the city in my own language, without a feed deciding what I should care about. It feels like it was built for us, because it genuinely was.
