Hopick 2.1.12 — Markdown Posts, a Cleaner Feed, and Cantonese By Default

by Hopick Team, Founders

It has been a big one. v2.1.12 bundles a stronger writing experience, a feed that asks less of your eyes, and a Cantonese first hello for anyone who picks up the app fresh.

Write better posts

Markdown everywhere. Tables, task lists, even spoilers — all work right in your post now. Images and links get proper formatting, and pictures keep a decent aspect ratio instead of a surprise crop.

Room for the right title. Titles can stretch to 50 characters. You can also preview the whole thing before it goes live, so there are no surprises after you hit post.

Sometimes a title says it all. Just a title, no body, is valid now. A short, sharp one-liner holds its own on the feed.

A feed easier to live with

Compact mode. Switch between full and compact post views to fit more into one screen.

An announcement tab. Important community updates now have a home instead of getting lost between memes and arguments.

Comment sorting. Newest, oldest, top, or most discussed — you pick the order that makes sense for how you read. Scrolling picks up too, cleaner and quicker than before.

A notifications makeover

Badges now tell you what actually happened — a reply, a mention, an upvote — and tap to jump straight in. Avatars got an upgrade as well, so you can tell who's who at a glance.

Faster profiles and friends

Profiles now cache on the phone, so people's pages load almost instantly. Settings pulls together version info, a Discord link, and data controls, so you know what the app knows and how to change it.

Cantonese by default

New users are greeted in 廣東話. Hong Kong's own language gets to introduce the app, as it should.

What we fixed

  • Cramped writing. Composing used to feel hemmed in; the composer is roomier now.
  • Announcements lost in noise. Their new home is the announcement tab.
  • Android navigation. Three-button nav overlapped content, and layout clipped at the edges. Both sorted.

What's next

A smarter home feed, richer posting tools, a more personal profile — and it should all stay fast.
